Environmental testing chambers for renewable energy systems

One of the most common applications for environmental chambers in recent times is for carrying out tests related to renewable energy. These tests are both to determine the reliability and the efficiency of renewable energy components such as solar panels, battery storage systems and electric drive systems, under various operating conditions.

Such environmental chambers can include U.V. light sources of known intensity and spectral distribution, the control of temperature and humidity and also possibly rain, fog and corrosion.

For batteries, generally only temperature and humidity need to be controlled however for electric car batteries and drives, the testing often needs to include shock and vibration – meaning a vibration chamber incorporating an electrodynamic shaker is required.
